Altus House – Student Accommodation Development

Project Summary:
The £45m redevelopment of Hume House in the centre of Leeds resulted in 752 purpose built student bedrooms being created through a mixture of studios and cluster apartments. The 37 storey building is the tallest in Yorkshire with stunning panoramic views from the roof terrace on the 35th floor and a wide range of amenity spaces throughout the building including a cinema, gym, private dining area and games room.

Meridian has provided Building Control Services from initial concept design for the developer (Olympian Homes) before being novated to the main contractor (RG Group) for the construction phase of the project, through to completion.

Services Used:
Building Control

 

  • Involvement from the early stages of design through to construction phase to minimise design risks and ensure a clear route to compliance throughout the project.
  • Engaging with the fire service at the pre-consultation stage to agree design principles to minimise risk and assist with cost certainty, through to undertaking a joint inspection with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service upon completion to ensure a smooth transition through to occupation.
  • Provision of Building Control tracker to assist with design compliance and to highlight expectations in terms of information required.
  • Provision of detailed photographic reports following each site inspection.
