New Approved Document B

The government has published a “clarified version” of Approved Document B – the part of the Building Regulations that relates to fire safety.

The new version has been simplified in a bid to make it easier for building owners to follow and understand the requirements to avoid any misinterpretations.

Among the changes in the revised Approved Document B is updated guidance for external walls to ensure that building owners understand the current requirements for buildings over 18m including the guidance relating to fire spread over the external walls which were updated in December 2018.

The main change in the new document  brings together guidance for flats and houses under the same volume and comes into force on August 30 2019 subject to the transitional provisions for existing submitted schemes.
