Conversion of Former Warehouse to 500 Apartments Craig is responsible for the project management of our warranty technical audit programme – working on behalf of our partnered latent defect warranty providers.
The project comprises a conversion of an existing 18 storey warehouse building (one of the largest brickbuilt buildings in Europe) and the addition of two storeys. The building, once complete, will comprise 500 apartments. Key issues include constraints of the existing building to secure Building Regulation compliance, Grade 2 listing, structural details involving the additional storeys, overall fire strategy using BS9991, and the structural alteration to form three separate 18 storey lightwells throughout the building.

Project Summary:
The £45m redevelopment of Hume House in the centre of Leeds resulted in 752 purpose built student bedrooms being created through a mixture of studios and cluster apartments. The 37 storey building is the tallest in Yorkshire with stunning panoramic views from the roof terrace on the 35th floor and a wide range of amenity spaces throughout the building including a cinema, gym, private dining area and games room.
Meridian has provided Building Control Services from initial concept design for the developer (Olympian Homes) before being novated to the main contractor (RG Group) for the construction phase of the project, through to completion.

Project Summary:
New build block of 55 apartments with ancillary communal accommodation, situated off a major route into Stafford. The site was challenging in terms of size and location, being in close proximity to marshland which brought with it specific environmental and structural issues. Access for fire service vehicles was also an issue that required specific input from our surveyors, to ensure that the completed work complied with the relevant requirements. The development was also designed to be highly energy efficient with renewable technology.
