Hume House – Student Accommodation Development

Project Summary:
The £45m redevelopment of Hume House in the centre of Leeds will result in 752 bedrooms being created in a 37 storey building. On completion, this is set to become the tallest building in Yorkshire. Meridian has provided Building Control Services from initial design for the developer (Olympian Homes) before being novated to the main contractor (RG Group) for the construction phase of the project, through to completion.

Services Used:

  • Involvement from the early stages of design through to construction phase.
  • Advising design team on external wall requirements through the transitional introduction of the new guidance following the ban on combustible materials in high rise buildings.
  • Engaging with the fire service at the pre-consultation stage to agree design principles to minimise risk and give cost certainty.
  • High rise development incorporating fire-fighting shaft and wets rising mains.
  • Provision of Building Control tracker to assist with design compliance.
  • Provision of detailed photographic reports following each site inspection.
