Disibility Discrimination Act 1995
This act was introduced to improve access to buildings and services to all people regardless of disability. Building owners should be aware that under this act, not only new build schemes, but existing buildings may need to be altered to ensure that they are not discriminating against people with disabilities using their premises. Premises affected by the Act must achieve compliance by October 2004.

Disabled Access Surveys
To ensure that you are not faced with civil proceedings against discrimination, it is imperative that building owners take action to review the existing arrangements for disabled persons, and develop action plans for any necessary improvements.
The most effective way to implement this is to undertake an access survey on all existing and proposed premises. Meridian Consult Ltd can implement this service on your behalf, not only providing access surveys and action plans but also giving design advice to ensure that your premise meets the requirements of the Act in the most cost effective way.
